How it all began ...

It all started in 2013 when a small distinguished group of businessmen and women came together to share their knowledge and experiences on some of the issues which are now part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Besides being leading philanthropists in their own countries and regions, what made this group unique was that these individuals and families came from emerging markets. They were part of a unique platform - Empower Families for Innovative Philanthropy (ERFIP).
ERFIP brings together principals, professionals and practitioners in an intimate and thoughtfully structured environment to build and share knowledge on addressing some of the most pressing social and economic challenges of our times.
Philanthropy from emerging economies is a critical complement to international development. ERFIP encourages cooperation among philanthropists to help catalyze a more cogent “voice” and strengthen both the impact on the ground and in international policy-making.
ERFIP is a testament that collective knowledge and experiences reinforce and nuance individual outlooks. By drawing on synergies between private philanthropy and business, ERFIP is helping to shape a future in which families, businesses, and institutions can cross-fertilize their vision and expertise for sustainable impact.
ERFIP was seed funded by Edmond de Rothschild Foundations.
